The newest possibility is Hubert Pleijsier's History of Washburn Guitar: Pre-war Instruments Styles, Guitars, Mandolins, Banjos and Ukuleles 1883-1940, which I haven't seen yet but promises more detailed information than, say, the nearly-useless 1996 book by John Teagle.ĭoes your "New Model" label also say "1897 Style"? I have what in the 1889 catalog would be a Style 102 ("standard" size, bound top, rosewood body), serial number 163607. Good luck on that-I've never found a source that was much help in placing Lyon & Healy products closer than a decade or two.
